Ep 9 – Strangely entertaining
We start off by seeing Ryan share his idol news with Devon. His brah. Proving to Devon that this bromance is still going strong, telling him no-one else would ever know about it. Ryan then says he trusts that Devon would never, ever tell anyone else about the idol. Well, he didn’t even need to because Ryan himself beat him to it! Ryan goes on to share the same news with Ben later on. How come people still struggle to remember that the less people know about your advantages, the better? Obviously, as soon as we saw Ryan tell Ben, I knew that the lovely bromance was going to be history. No more walks in the woods with those two. How did Ryan not see it coming? How could he put his trust in Ben not telling anyone else. Why would he tell Devon that he’s the only one who knows about the idol? Why did he think Devon wouldn’t hear about it? You should always assume that no secret will remain a secret on Survivor, no matter how much you think you can trust a person. You should always play it safe and at least choose your words more carefully.
Where as last week’s challenges were quite boring, this week I liked both of them. For some reason I like water challenges, especially if they involve swimming, diving and throwing stuff. The reward for that challenge managed to slip my mind completely, what was it? I guess nothing interesting happened during the reward since I have no memory of it whatsoever! 😀 I also liked the immunity challenge, squatting is painful! I like watching challenges that cause some sort of pain for the castaways. Is that weird?
Then there was someone else who was in the middle of everything in this episode and that was Ben. He is clearly running things at the moment. With his sidekick Lauren. I say “at the moment” because I have a feeling there might be a mutiny in the horizon. We already saw Chrissy and Ashley questioning Ben’s plan so it might as well be that they will slowly start realizing that Ben is playing for Ben, not for the alliance. They should already be thinking that anyway so I hope they do realize that! I think Ben might have even been a little too reckless with how adamant he was about voting for Cole/Mike instead of Joe. He didn’t even give the girls the illusion that he was listening to their side. That is also a sure way to get people annoyed and not wanting to vote with you anymore. I do like Ben, but somehow I now have a feeling that this is going to come back to bite him.
Mike’s rant at Tribal Council about high morals and whatnot amused me. I get what he was saying but hey, this is Survivor. Normal things like morals hardly apply when you’re playing a game for million dollars. Wanting to play the game with high morals is all good but thinking the others will do the same is just pure foolishness.
